Alignment: Morgan Simon

On this month’s episode of “Alignment: Using Your Values to Invest in Social Change,” our CEO Matt sat down with Morgan Simon to discuss how she is redefining and revolutionizing the investor image.

More about Morgan

Notably, less than 1.1% of assets globally are managed by firms owned by a woman or person of color. Morgan strives to break these stereotypes. She co-founded and co-leads Candide Group, an Oakland-based Registered Investment Advisor that helps families, foundations, athletes and influencers who want their money to work for justice. Morgan has nearly two decades of experience making finance a tool for social justice. In that time, she has influenced more than $150B in capital and is a regularly sought out expert on impact investing. Her first book, Real Impact: The New Economics of Social Change has been featured widely, from Harvard Business School to the United Nations.

“I was trying to figure out how to do social good, and I kept winding up back at the economy. I felt that’s where change happens, so I needed to be comfortable with money. I eventually learned that social change can happen when investors are educated, the economy is equalized, and resources are properly distributed.” - Morgan Simon

Prior to founding Candide Group, Morgan was an avid social entrepreneur. She served as the founding CEO of Toniic, a global impact investment network; co-founder of Transform Finance, a non-profit organization building a bridge between finance and social justice; and also the founding Executive Director of the Responsible Endowments Coalition, an organization working to educate and organize on over 100 university campuses across the country.

Morgan received a B.A. with High Honors in Economics and Political Science from Swarthmore College, and is an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Program at Middlebury College.
